The theme of the second workshop, held on October 3-4, 2023, was leverage points of change. Identifying leverage points for the Upper Mississippi River Basin requires a whole system evaluation of the root causes that, when addressed, can increase the implementation of conservation practices with multiple benefits. UMRBA and the workshop participants worked together to plan strategic efforts to address root causes: policy, financial, technical, leadership, and partnership. Examples of leverage points include improved and coordinated technical assistance, innovative and streamlined funding mechanisms, peer to peer networks, and new partnerships/collaborations.
